miShell
The Challenge
Stock management for the shellfish industry was previously done on paper, which made it extremely difficult to keep track of the overall amount of stock, as well as the proportion of sizes and whether the stock was ready for sale.
Oyster farmers struggled to track oysters growth rate, as well as death/disease rate to determine how to effectively rotate stock. Data recorded on the paper would get wet when they are out in the water and there are no retention of data that hinders traceability.
The challenge was to create an oyster farm management webapp that allows easier recording, analysing and prioritising work for oyster farmers. Reducing mortality, therefore increasing yield and profitability, while empowering with data to increase inventory availability.

How did Kiratech empower the Innovator & Entrepreneur?

Ken as the Director of Blue Farm Intelligence has 20 years of IT experience and has made a sea change into becoming a thought leader of aquaculture on Kangaroo Island where he established a multi-species integrated farm, shop and R&D operation. Together, with Ken, we took on the challenge of transforming an 8-year-old software into a modern and relevant farm management software for the market.
Ken started with our Rapid service and eventually moved up to Production which we integrated seaweed cultivation into Oyster Farm Management to enhance its carbon footprint, aiming for global carbon neutrality. This strategy evaluates local environmental impact, presents a scalable model, and addresses broader market challenges, securing a unique market position with positive sustainability impact.
